In general, the ferrous foundry market is extremely small compared to the larger ferrous scrap market. Because of this, there is a limited amount of foundry grade scraps currently in the market. Those who do follow the foundry market tend to also follow heavy melting grades because the pricing tends to be similar to that of the foundry grades.
Heavy breakable cast is a grade of cast iron. The weight specifications of this metals grade must measure more than 500 pounds or exceed the charging box size. Heavy breakable cast may include cylinders and driving wheel centers. It also may include steel which does not exceed 10 percent of the casting by weight as specified by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
