Clean automobile cast, better known as “auto cast” is a specially processed grade of scrap, which is prepared specifically to meet steel mill or foundry requirements.
This particular category of scrap will be free of all steel parts, except camshafts, valves, valve springs, and studs. It will also be free of nonferrous and non-metallic parts, and must be broken into cupola size. This means that each piece of scrap must be no more than 150 pounds in weight, and measure no more than twenty four by thirty inches (24X30 in). When referring to cleanliness of auto cast, it is important that the scrap be free of dirt, nonferrous materials, or foreign matter of any kind. This definition is as specified by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
